Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 28. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches will be waived.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ trails designated as National Recreation Trails
WASHINGTON –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced recently that five of its recreation trails have been designated national recreation trails by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The five are among 28 trails nationwide designated this year as new national recreation trails, and will join the national network of more than 1,200 previously designated trails that encompass more than 14,000 miles of existing trails and trail systems.

Corps celebrates America's Great Outdoors, opens new pathway
RAYSTOWN LAKE, Pa. -- A new 2.3 mile pathway around the Seven Points Recreation Area -- made 100 percent out of recycled materials - should reduce traffic congestion, increase pedestrian safety, and provide a healthy alternate to driving. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District celebrated an America's Great Outdoors event to officially open Raystown Lake's Greenside Pathway, June 20.

Play it safe on the lake this holiday weekend
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Independence Day is right around the corner, and with it comes one of the busiest times of the year for recreation at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With thousands of people expected to visit the lakes this weekend, the Corps reminds the public to play it safe on the water.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps to close Big Dam Bridge for inspection
The Big Dam Bridge, across Murray Lock and Dam will be closed to all traffic from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Oct. 19 - 23 for a routine bridge inspection. Officials at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regret any inconvenience this may cause and ask for the public’s cooperation until the work is complete.

Corps announces the second phase of reopenings at recreation facilities
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces a second phase of reopenings starting October 9, at Corps-managed recreation areas along the Okeechobee Waterway that were closed in March to protect against the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Below average runoff continues in the upper Missouri River basin
September precipitation was well-below normal in the Missouri River Basin. As a result, September runoff in the upper Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa was 69% of average. Since January 1, precipitation in the upper Basin is well-below normal. The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is forecasting that below-normal precipitation will continue in October. The 2020 calendar year runoff forecast for the upper Basin, updated on October 1, is 30.2 million acre-feet (MAF), 117% of average. Average annual runoff for the upper Basin is 25.8 MAF.
