Corps awards $12 million contract to build islands near Lansing, Iowa
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently awarded a nearly $12 million contract to Newt Marine Services of Dubuque, Iowa, to restore habitat within the Mississippi River Pool 9.

Huntington District artifacts transferred to the Veterans Curation Program
Thanks to the efforts of a team of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) archaeological experts, artifacts from nine West Virginia project sites have been transferred to the Veterans Curation Program (VCP) from storage at the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex in Moundsville, W.Va.

USACE participates in Phoenix STEM event
Capt. Adam Z. McGinnis, the deputy area engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District's Arizona-Nevada Area Office, and 1st Lt. Luke Ritz, a project engineer at the District’s Fort Huachuca Resident Office, participated in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math event held Sept. 25 at the Phoenix Convention Center by Ten80 Education, a national program aimed at cultivating STEM skills in youth.

National award winners recognized for excellence
Ten members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) were honored Aug. 7 as they received awards during the National Awards ceremony. Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, Chief of Engineers and USACE commander, presented the awards during the USACE Senior Leaders Conference at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Army Corps of Engineers Receives New Biological Opinion on the 2012 Nationwide Permits
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that it received a final biological opinion from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries on the nationwide permits that were reissued on Feb. 13, 2012, and went into effect on March 19, 2012. The biological opinion was issued on Nov. 24, 2014, and it concludes the re-initiated programmatic consultation on the Endangered Species Act that began in July 2012 between USACE and NOAA Fisheries.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 2,200 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, November 11.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Releases Work Plans for Fiscal Year 2014 Civil Works Appropriations
Washington - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers yesterday delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2014 (FY14) work plans for the Army Civil Works program. President Obama on January 17 signed into law the Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act, 2014, Division D of Public Law 113-76, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2014, providing $5.467 billion in FY14 appropriations for the Army Civil Works program.
