    A few Diamond Elementary School students view the makings of an outdoor amphitheater at the construction site of the new school May 3. Thirteen contest winners of Archer Western Contractor’s poster contest toured the site currently under construction at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Diamond students from kindergarten through sixth-grade submitted posters emphasizing safety themes in recognition of Safety Week celebrated May 2-6. The winning submissions were printed on the firm’s calendar that will be available throughout the Fort Stewart community.

    Workers with the Bahrain Resident Office conducted a Construction Safety Stand-Down May 4th at the P935/940 (Transient Bachelor Quarters) construction site where projects reached one million man-hours free of safety violations or accidents. Area Engineer Shahzada Shahrukh spoke to workers about the importance of safety in the workplace, particularly about Fall Prevention.     Work paused for safety stand-down, highlighting fall prevention

    Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry so each year, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration asks employers in the construction industry to participate in the voluntary National Fall Prevention Stand-Down. This year’s National Safety Stand-Down, which raises awareness of preventing fall hazards, is May 4-15. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District asked contractors on each project to set aside some time to pause their work and conduct a focused safety talk on ladder safety, scaffold safety or other fall protection topics.

    A Good Relationship to Keep

    Recently the District and the Bureau of Reclamation teamed up to fix some flood damage at the District's Two Rivers project in Southeastern New Mexico. This isn't the first time the two agenices have cooperated.
