Work paused for safety stand-down, highlighting fall prevention
Falls are the leading cause of death in the construction industry so each year, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration asks employers in the construction industry to participate in the voluntary National Fall Prevention Stand-Down. This year’s National Safety Stand-Down, which raises awareness of preventing fall hazards, is May 4-15. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District asked contractors on each project to set aside some time to pause their work and conduct a focused safety talk on ladder safety, scaffold safety or other fall protection topics.

US upgrades Senegalese army training center
DODJI, Senegal -- The sound of construction progress will soon be replaced by the voices of Senegalese soldiers at Dodji Peacekeeping Operations Training Center. Representatives from the Senegalese army, U.S. Embassy Senegal and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District visited the Dodji PKO project site Aug. 20 to inspect construction work by contractor, CNaf-SET.

3 Afghan National Police headquarters facilities now complete in Western Afghanistan
KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed construction of three Afghan Uniform Police headquarters facilities in Western Afghanistan, well ahead of schedule. The facilities, built by Afghan-owned and operated construction firms with oversight by the Afghanistan Engineer District-South, will serve as bases of operations for 100 personnel at Qala I Naw, 120 personnel at Torghondi, and 60 personnel at Lash Jaween.

In-house design helps transform California military post
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - An abandoned airplane hangar with just four instructors, 60 students and only one language was how the school began in San Francisco. Around the same time the school was starting its life, a small, 170-year-old military post about 100 miles south was going through yet another renovation: serving as a reception area for the U.S. Army's III Corps.
