  • Corps of Engineers helps build 'green' military base for the future

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is helping build a military base for the future at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif., one of several U.S. Army pilot installations selected to be net zero energy and net zero waste by 2020. Net zero means the installation will create as much energy as it uses, and reuse and recover all of its waste products. The district is nearing completion on the second of four solar microgrid projects at the installation.

    Master Sgt. Bernie Lujan received the 2012 U.S. Army Antiterrorism Honor Roll Award March 26, 2013, at the District’s Headquarters in Albuquerque, N.M. Lujan also received the 2012 USACE Meritorious Antiterrorism Honor Roll Award in the same ceremony.

    The Albuquerque District welcomed Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly, March 15, 2013. Shelly visited the District’s office as part of executive level discussions on how to improve coordination and collaboration between the Corps and the Navajo Nation for current and future projects.

Though the laundry list of "to dos" was great, he knew she (the Colorado River Locks - completed in 1954), was more than worthy of his labor of love.

  • Corps of Engineers to hold public meeting for 2013 Indiana Harbor dredging start

    Indiana Harbor Dredging Contractors Kokosing Construction Co. and O’Brien & Gere and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present the 2013 Indiana Harbor dredging activities and schedule at a public meeting April 3, 2013. Over a period of eight to 10 years, this project will produce an estimated 1.8 million cubic yards of dredged materials. IHC is one of the busiest ports by tonnage and the number one area of contamination in the Great Lakes.

  • Going Green: The Silvery Minnow, Drought and the Rio Grande

    As signs of spring begin to show in the bosque, environmentalists, biologists and others continue their efforts to understand river flow issues along the Middle Rio Grande. Of particular interest are endangered species in relation to water use and jurisdiction. Within the past three years, the drought has proven to be a constant challenge to create and maintain a balanced environment for the silvery minnow to continue to spawn. Due to the drought, the environment needed for natural spawning is not present.

  • JIM WOODRUFF LOCK TO REMAIN CLOSED FOR REPAIRS

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announced today the Jim Woodruff Lock located on the Apalachicola River in Chattahoochee, Florida will remain closed to all vessels as much needed repairs continue. The lock closed on December 10, 2012 and is expected to remain closed through April 30, 2013.

    RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -- The Army Corps of Engineers is advising landowners adjacent to public lands on Lake Dardanelle that survey crews will soon be conducting boundary line maintenance along the government boundary.
