Corps surveys the Keystone Dam
The Memphis District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to perform survey support for districts outside of the Mississippi Valley Division. Recently, Surveyors Josh Beam and Phil Pettit from the Memphis Survey Section completed a survey of the Keystone Dam, which is located west of Tulsa, Oklahoma on Keystone Lake near the community of Sand Springs.

Chicago Harbor Lock – busiest in nation last year for lockages, vessels
The Chicago Harbor Lock, located in Chicago and adjacent to Navy Pier, separates the waters of Lake Michigan from the Chicago River. It is one of two entrances from the Great Lakes to the Illinois Waterway System. And, according to its Lockmaster Selwyn Tyrone Valley, last year it hit a milestone.

Nansemond project’s Restoration Advisory Board to meet Thursday
SUFFOLK, Va. — Restoration efforts at Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot remain a priority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project's next Restoration Advisory Board meeting is set for Thursday from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at Tidewater Community College’s Center for Workforce Solutions.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Army Corps work set to resume on Fire Island, NY & Monmouth County, NJ Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Projects
NEW YORK – Two commercial hopper dredges that deployed to Florida to support emergency beach renourishment work at USACE’s Jacksonville District in March 2020 are returning to NY and NJ to complete previously contracted work. The B.E. LINDHOLM arrived at Fire Island on May 6 and is completing final preparations to begin work, while the MAGDALEN will arrive on or about May 15. B.E. LINDHOLM is expected to begin work on the Point O' Woods and Ocean Bay Park portions of the Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Project (FIMI). FIMI is scheduled to be completed by June 19, 2020. Once work is complete on FIMI, the MAGDALEN will transit to Monmouth County, N.J. to complete its beach renourishment contract

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has canceled the May Open House and Site Tour usually held annually at the Main Groundwater Treatment Plant in Ashland, Nebraska located at the junction of County Road 6 and County Road F.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to begin the public involvement process for the Conchas Lake Master Plan revision
The Albuquerque District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is beginning the revision of the Conchas Lake Master Plan. All members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments and suggestions before June 22, 2020.

Corps manages scarce water resources, hosts public information sessions
After a dry winter and spring so far, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District is working with regional stakeholders to manage a scarcity of water throughout the Willamette Valley Project in the upcoming months.
