The Memphis District Design Teams are celebrating the recent completion of designs for four supplemental projects now ready to be advertised. The packages have been sent to the contracting team for award this fiscal year.

Nerve agent destruction begins at Blue Grass Army Depot
Full-scale chemical agent destruction operations at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant at the Blue Grass Army Depot began Jan. 17 with the destruction of the first 8-inch projectile containing GB nerve agent in the main plant.

20-011 Corps continues assisting flood recovery efforts
Walla Walla Wash. - The Walla Walla River basin's rain-on-snow event resulted in historic flows on most streams and rivers in the region. In the aftermath of the flood event, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District shifted their focus from flood fighting to helping restore some of the surrounding flood effected areas.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps of Engineers announce phased reopening of campgrounds
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is planning a phased reopening of campsites and recreation areas closed due to COVID-19, to begin immediately. The decision to reopen each recreation area is based largely on the safety of the staff and visitors. Each lake is going through a conditions-based assessment to verify all staff can return to work safely and will have the proper personal protection equipment available. In addition, they are confirming the availability of contractors and staff who help operate and maintain the recreation areas and implementing operational changes to address COVID-19 concerns in campgrounds.
