Norfolk District restricting access to facilities to help prevent spread of COVID-19
In order to help limit the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is restricting access to its properties to Corps personnel only.

Grand Prairie Tainter gates ‘OK’ to proceed

USACE continues work on e Lake Okeechobee Regulation Schedule deviation
After he took charge of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District in 2018, Col. Andrew Kelly charged his team to look for tools that would offer different options for the management of water in Lake Okeechobee during times when harmful algal blooms (HABs) were present. Significant HAB events affected Lake Okeechobee and the coastal estuaries in 2016 and 2018. Jacksonville District engineers and biologists reviewed the Lake Okeechobee Regulation Schedule (LORS) and looked for potential tools to adjust operations in anticipation of possible future HAB events. Last summer, Jacksonville District rolled out a proposed deviation to LORS that would provide greater flexibility in the management of water with the goal of reducing the health risk to the public associated with HABs.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

USACE Albuquerque District lakes scheduled to begin phased reopening
USACE-Albuquerque District announced May 15, 2020, that USACE-managed lakes in New Mexico and southeastern Colorado are scheduled to begin the first part of a phased reopening. The initial reopening date will vary from lake to lake due to local and state conditions. See the news release for lake-specific information.
