Mother’s Life Lessons Guide Eller Ever Higher
Many people struggle to find or recognize their higher purpose in life. Some never come to understand the significance of the minutes, hours and days that make up their life. Tambour Eller is not one of them. From a young age Eller looked to her mother, who raised her alone, for such answers. What she found was an example of how to face life's daily challenges straight on, with faith that hard work and perseverance would reveal all she needed to know. "She taught me that when the going gets tough, it's tough for everyone – people have different ways of handling it. But every day, you get up, be thankful and get to work because you are a part of a larger plan – God's plan."

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Last week’s historic flash flood of Mill Creek was devastating for many of our neighbors in the Walla Walla Valley, but the City of Walla Walla was again spared from the ruinous damage of 6,000 cubic feet per second of floodwater raging through the city. As we recover from the storm and prepare for the future, we should pause to remember the vision of city leaders such as Virgil Bennington, the ingenuity of an earlier generation of U.S. Army engineers, and the dedicated professionals who operate today’s Mill Creek Project.

Vicksburg District announces launch of online inundation mapping viewer
VICKSBURG, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announced that an online viewer for inundation mapping will launch Feb. 12. The viewer, which will be accessible through a web browser, will allow users to view forecasted inundation layers for areas affected by high water across the district’s 68,000-square-mile jurisdiction in parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.

USACE Buffalo District receives additional $91.3 million in FY20 Work Plan
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has received $91,256,500 in the Fiscal Year 2020 Work Plan, to complete projects across the District’s area of responsibility. This is in addition to the $24,562,000 the District has already received in the Fiscal Year 2020 President’s Budget.
