Diving in the St. Lawrence River to better understand Lake Erie and Ontario
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District Dive Team, accompanied by USACE Detroit District Hydraulic Engineers, traveled north to the St. Lawrence River and installed an Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meter (ADVM) 4-miles upstream of Morristown, New York.

New York District hosts a Joint Armed Forces ribbon cutting ceremony at the Times Square Recruiting Center
On November 10th, 2017 a contingent of joint armed forces recruiting commands joined the Army Corps’ New York District and the North Atlantic Division for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Center at Times Square. The ribbon was cut by a joint service group of commanders that included Major General Garrett Harencak, Commander, Air Force Recruiting Service, Lieutenant Colonel Judd Floris, Commander, NYC Army Recruiting Battalion, Colonel Ivan Monclova, Commander, 1st Marine Corp District, Colonel Robert Hailey, Acting Deputy Commander, North Atlantic Division, and Commander Christian Gaskill, Commander, Navy Recruiting District New York.

Army Regional Environmental and Energy Office recognized for collaborative success
The U.S. Army Regional Environmental and Energy Offices (REEOs) have been developing strong partnerships throughout the nation for more than 20 years. These partnerships enable the REEOs to work closely with military and regional policymakers to set standards that improve Army readiness, safety, and well-being.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps to resume flows from Lake Okeechobee
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will resume flows from Lake Okeechobee in an effort to stem the rise in water level resulting from Hurricane Irma. Starting Friday (Sept. 15), the Corps will release as much water as practical through the spillway at Port Mayaca Lock & Dam (S-308) located on the east side of the lake. The Corps will initiate flows from the Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee Estuary as soon as capacity exists downstream.
