Milestone reached - 700 generators installed by the RFO's temporary power team (video)
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working out of the Recovery Field Office in Puerto Rico reached an unmatched milestone during the holiday weekend when it installed its seven-hundredth temporary generator on the island in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Throughout the island of Puerto Rico, a massive operation to remove more than three million cubic yards of debris churns on. Just outside of Ponce, the Recovery Field Office has established a bustling collection site in the El Tuque Quarry to collect vegetation, or veg, debris.

In the mountains of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting one of its last building assessments on critical infrastructure on the island. For more than five weeks, teams have worked tirelessly to document damage done by hurricanes Irma and Maria to more than one-thousand buildings, whether in urban centers or remote mountain villages.

Protecting NASA from wildfires critical role for Mobile District’s forester at Stennis
One man stands between a potential wildfire and NASA’s largest rocket engine test facility, the John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. That man is Quinn Kelly, a forestry technician with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.
