Corps hosts cleanup event at Santa Ana River Marsh for third consecutive year
For the third consecutive year, more than 20 volunteers traveled to the Santa Ana River Marsh Sept. 21 to participate in California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. The 92-acre marsh lies at the outlet of the Santa Ana River to the Pacific Ocean in Newport Beach and is owned and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District.

Small business is big business for Norfolk District
In the last two years, Cherie Kunze met with over 200 firms, conducted numerous outreach events and used each of her 30 years of contracting experience. In 2019, it paid off. The Norfolk District Office of Small Business Programs deputy took the commander’s program to record highs by far exceeding the district’s small business goals.

Sutton Lake Biological Surveys
Huntington District's Water Quality Team, EC-GW-W cooperated with the WV DNR, WV DEP, and the USFWS downstream of Sutton Lake on the Elk River to maximize opportunities related to the shutdown of the outflow for the scheduled PI. Flow was shut down at the dam in order to allow inspections of the tunnels and outlet structure by USACE personnel. Staff from the separate state and federal resource agencies worked together to conduct both fish surveys and mussel assessments downstream of the dam. The combination of the shutdown and the surveys drew a crowd and allowed a great opportunity for outreach to our stakeholders.

USACE Galveston District switches over to new outlet control structures
HOUSTON – Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District (USACE Galveston) switched the flow of water at Addicks Dam to new outlet control structures, constructed as part of a $75 million contract awarded to Granite Construction Company to improve and modernize Addicks and Barker Dams. USACE Galveston had already cut over to new outlet control structures at Barker Dam on February 14. The new structures have been under construction since 2015 and will replace the originals built in the 1940s. Completion of the entire contract is expected in summer 2020.

20-016 Dworshak Dam postpones opening campgrounds
AHSAHKA, Idaho – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Dworshak Dam Ranger staff announces that Dent Acres campground, as well as Canyon Creek and Dam View campgrounds will not open for the season in April as planned. Due to minimum staffing and for visitor safety during this COVID-19 outbreak, Dworshak staff has been directed to postpone opening the campgrounds until a later date. At this time, we cannot give a specific date when the campgrounds will open.
