  • Temporary Park Closures at Lake Sidney Lanier

    Following severe weather that passed through North Georgia on Monday, August 3rd, several parks on the south side of Lake Sidney Lanier will be partially or fully closed temporarily as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff remove hazards and conduct area surveys to ensure public safety.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Project Office at West Point Lake wishes to announce that permits and maps for the 2020-2021 hunting seasons are now available to the public.

  • Vicksburg District sees near-record catfish caught at Arkabutla Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District visitors and staff received a surprise July 19 when a catfish grabbling guide service caught a near-record specimen at Arkabutla Lake. The guide service, Southern Boyz Grabbling, used the lake’s natural structure and a weighted wooden box to catch the 81.2-pound female flathead catfish by hand. At 54.5 inches long with a 36.5 inch girth, the catfish was just 8.3 pounds shy of the current state record. Fishermen Dalton Scott, Josh Bennett and Jacob Bennett were guiding a client through her first grabbling experience at the time. Scott discovered the catfish when he checked the box and quickly secured it with a stringer.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Aug. 4, 2020) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District awarded a $7,015,443 contract July 28, 2020, to Kiewit Infrastructure South Co. of Omaha, Neb., for the Ponce De Leon Inlet North Jetty Rehabilitation and Aid to Navigation Replacement Project at Ponce de Leon Inlet in Volusia County, Fla.

    Walla Walla, WA -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District (Corps) will be treating the invasive plant species, reed canary grass, in Yellowhawk Creek and Garrison Creek on August 6 and 7.
  • Army Corps shares information on streamlined storm damage repairs permits and exemptions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates that some owners of damaged property from Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaias within the Baltimore District area will want to conduct repair activities in the near future. It is important to note that most of these smaller repairs may not require an application to be submitted to the Army Corps prior to beginning work.
  • Army Corps of Engineers announces proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it has prepared its proposal to renew and revise 52 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. The proposal includes five new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing seaweed mariculture activities, finfish mariculture activities, electric utility line and telecommunications activities, utility line activities for water and other substances, and water reclamation and reuse facilities.  A pre-publication copy of the proposal has been posted on the USACE web site at: https://www.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Regulatory-Program-and-Permits/National-Notices-and-Program-Initiatives/.
