    Col. Everett Spain is presented the Soldier's Medal, the U.S. Army's highest peacetime decoration for heroisim, by Maj. Gen. William Rapp, chief, Army Legislative Liaison. Spain received the award for heroism for actions taken one-year prior at the scene of the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013, where he distinguished himself following the two blasts by immediately and selflessly rushing toward the threat without regard to his own personal safety; rendering first aid until medical help arrived despite the potential for additional explosive devices.

    BOSTON-- Many Americans have seen the shaky photos and videos taken when the bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. Among the many people who went to the aid of the injured, there are glimpses of runners who stripped off their shirts to tie tourniquets around the shattered limbs of bomb victims.

    Comment Period: Interpretive rule for the 404(f)(1)(A) exemption under the Clean Water Act

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of the Army Civil Works announce a Notice of Availability for a 45-day public comment period in the Federal Register for an interpretive rule for the 404(f)(1)(A) exemption under the Clean Water Act. The public comment period begins on April 21, 2014 and ends on June 05, 2014.

    Comment Period: Proposed rule for the definition of Waters of the U.S. under the Clean Water Act

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announce the publication of a joint proposed rule for the definition of Waters of the U.S. under the Clean Water Act in the Federal Register for a 90-day public comment period. The public comment period begins on April 21, 2014 and ends on July 21, 2014.
  • The Wankel T.rex is prepared for exhibit in its original “death pose” at Montana State University’s Museum of the Rockies, Bozeman, Mont., 2005. The Wankel T.rex died in a riverbed more than 65 million years ago and was discovered by Kathy Wankel, a Montana rancher, near the Fort Peck Reservoir in Eastern Montana in 1988.

    Tyrannosaurus Rex to embark on cross country journey

    OMAHA, Neb. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District’s Wankel Tyrannosaurus Rex will soon travel from Montana, where it has resided for the past 66 million years, to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.
  • Veterans Vadi Dodge and Doug Blain rehabilitate historic maps in the Veterans Curation Program lab in St. Louis as part of their work supporting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mission to preserve and manage the Army’s vast archaeological collection. The VCP has three labs in which veterans receive technical training in preserving and archiving archaeological collections under the direct supervision of professionals in the field of archaeology.

    ST. LOUIS - In an unassuming office in St. Louis, Dr. Michael "Sonny" Trimble and his team are working to get a 66-million-year-old, seven-ton tyrannosaurus safely packed and moved cross-country. This effort is just one part of a greater undertaking to preserve and share America's cultural and natural history.
  • The final crate of the inventory and condition reporting for the Wankel T.rex before departing the Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman, Mont., for the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. The Wankel T.rex specimen was found on lands managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District near Fort Peck Reservoir in eastern Montana in 1988.

    USACE employees go green in April

    From tree planting and spring cleanups to a “Green Campus Initiative,” U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel are making a difference as Earth Day approaches on April 22. Although Army Corps of Engineers employees take time to do something good for the environment on a daily basis, each April there is an increased emphasis on getting outdoors and working with community groups to do just a little bit more.
