  • Russellville Project Office Defers Shoreline Activity Requests until Oct. 1

    RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – As a result of budget constraints the Army Corps of Engineers Russellville Project Office will defer all new requests for shoreline use until Oct. 1 allowing the Corps to shift its resources to address park visitor assistance during the summer recreation season.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Oct. 1, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract in the amount $3,405,500 to Weeks Marine Inc. for maintenance dredging of the Brownsville Harbor Entrance Channel in Cameron County, Texas.

  • What is the Corps’ Beneficial Use Program?

    Annually, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District dredges approximately 30 to 40 million cubic yards of material as part of its mission of keeping America’s waterways navigable. The Corps is able to turn that into an added benefit by employing environmentally and economically responsible methods to uses dredged material to benefit local communities and improve eroded coastlines through marsh restoration, beach nourishment and other beneficial uses when possible.

  • Nearly 600 volunteers ‘pitch in’ at 22nd Annual Lake Cumberland Clean-up

    SOMERSET, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2011) – Cooler temperatures welcomed volunteers to yet another successful National Public Lands Day event here along the shores of Lake Cumberland. The Friends of Lake Cumberland, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, held the 22nd annual lake-wide cleanup, and the results were terrific.

  • Volunteers haul out 8,400 pounds of trash at Laurel Lake

    LONDON, Ky. (April 16, 2011) – A total of 270 volunteers worked from boat and shoreline today and hauled out 8,400 pounds of trash during the 14th annual Laurel Lake Clean-up. Some of the most unusual items retrieved included a water heater, a stove, and a 1979 Michigan license plate.
