  • USACE Vicksburg District begins drawdown at Eagle Lake

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District, in collaboration and agreement with its local, state and federal partners, plans to operate the Muddy Bayou Control Structure to lower the elevation of Eagle Lake, located approximately 10 miles north of Vicksburg, Mississippi, to near 73 feet by early to mid-October.

The meeting will be hosted online, and it will include an overview of the study process including preliminary findings and potential solutions.

  • Critical drainage channels to be maintained

    Throughout its history, the Lower Mississippi River Flood Plain has been besieged by floodwaters; that’s why flood risk management is one of the Memphis District's major mission areas. We serve as the first line of defense for the entire lower Valley. Working to execute this mission and serving as that first line of defense, a Memphis District Project Delivery Team awarded three major contracts to perform maintenance on drainage channels 1 and 251, which are located in the Little River Drainage District in Southeast Missouri. The contracts are for lower Ditch 251, upper Ditch 251, and upper Ditch 1 and authorize contractors to go in and return a total of 89 miles worth of drainage channels to their authorized level of flood protection.
  • Vicksburg District to close outlet gates at Arkabutla, Grenada, Sardis lakes

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will conduct scheduled maintenance and inspections at three of its north Mississippi lakes – Arkabutla, Grenada and Sardis – that will temporarily close each lake’s outlet gates from approximately mid-August through the end of September.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation and Bonneville Power Administration today released the Columbia River System Operations Final Environmental Impact Statement. The issuance of the final EIS is a substantial step toward accomplishment of a priority item of the Presidential Memorandum on Promoting the Reliable Supply and Delivery of Water in the West issued in October 2018.
