    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2019) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Water Management Section is overseeing water releases at its dams in the Cumberland River Basin in the wake of yesterday’s significant rain event within the basin.

  • NR 18-030: Public reminded of drone policies at Corps, TVA projects

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 6, 2018) — The public is reminded of the policies of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority that govern the operation and use of recreational unmanned aerial systems (UAS or drones) . The Corps of Engineers operates and maintains navigation locks at TVA dams where the TVA drone policy applies.

  • Corps reservoirs prevent 2nd highest flood of record along Kiski River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh, calculates that its recent operation of the district’s Conemaugh River Lake and Loyalhanna Lake dams east of Pittsburgh cut the crest of Kiskiminetas River by 17 feet, preventing the second highest flood of record.

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (Feb. 1, 2018) – What would happen if a towboat and barge were commandeered and its hijackers threatened public safety while inside a Corps of Engineers navigation lock? First responders wrestled with this potential scenario during a tabletop exercise at Old Hickory Dam today.

  • Nashville District celebrating its 130th Anniversary in 2018

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 18, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2018. The Nashville District formed from the Chattanooga District to construct a series of locks and dams on the Cumberland River. Army Special Order 191 created the district Aug. 18, 1888, and Lt. Col. John W. Barlow took command.

  • ISIS, potential dam collapse make deployment memorable

    Richard Benoit, Portland District dive team proponent and program manager, has been deployed for more than a year, first to Afghanistan and now to Iraq. This is his seventh overseas deployment, but his first to the Middle East, where he is serving as the Corps’ dive safety officer and dive safety inspector for the Mosul Dam rehabilitation and repair project.

  • Debris could enter Lake Pend Oreille, boaters should use caution

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ officials have declared the log-boom breach at Clark Fork Drift Yard an emergency and are warning boaters to watch out for logs and other floating debris in Lake Pend Oreille. Debris from the Clark Fork River may pass through the breach creating a safety hazard for all recreational boating activities.

  • Parents ‘show and tell’ on ‘Take Your Kids to Work Day’

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 14, 2017) – Excited youngsters eagerly donned life jackets today for the chance to learn about navigation and water safety on board several Corps of Engineers boats docked on the Cumberland River at Music City’s Riverfront. Throughout the day they participated in lots of fun activities, learned about Nashville District operations and missions, and their parents did a lot of “show and tell” on “Take Your Kids to Work Day.”

  • Corps and others continue to monitor and manage Columbia Basin river and reservoir levels

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division, in coordination with its Portland, Seattle, and Walla Walla Districts as well as B.C. Hydro, Bonneville Power Administration, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the National Weather Service’s, Northwest River Forecast Center, and others are continuing to monitor river conditions across the Columbia River Basin.
