    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2013) – A conservation biologist at Center Hill Lake is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for July 2013.
  • Dredging starts on Sandy-relief-funded contracts for Burns Small Boat, Michigan City harbors

    Hydraulic dredging of approximately 45,000 cubic yards at Michigan City Harbor in Michigan City, Ind., began Sept. 6, 2013. Hydraulic dredging of approximately 25,000 cubic yards will be dredged at Burns Small Boat Harbor in Portage, Ind., beginning in a few weeks. A contract was awarded in the amount of $551,500 July 15, 2013 for these operations.
  • Contract awarded for levee work in Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights

    $2.4 million contract awarded Aug. 31, for work on Levee 37 that extends from Euclid Avenue to Palatine Road. This contract includes small closure structures for pipes crossing the line of protection - adding 135 feet of floodwall along Milwaukee Avenue and closing a regulated 600-foot gap in the levee, following construction completion of compensatory storage. Work will benefit residents of Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights, Ill.
  • South Pacific Division commander visits district projects, people

    Col. David Turner, the commander of the South Pacific Division, went on a whirlwind tour of several Los Angeles District projects during a visit to the area Aug. 19-23. Turner, who took command of the division in June, was joined by James Dalton, the Corps of Engineers’ chief of engineering and construction, and Brad Schwichtenberg, deputy chief of the division’s regional integration team.
  • Corps, Forest Service to host two public meetings for Isabella recreation plan

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and the U.S. Forest Service will host two public information gathering meetings Sept. 25-26 to help inform development of the Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification Project’s recreation plan.
  • Corps awards design services contract for Isabella Lake Dam project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $111,998 contract Aug. 27 to URS-GEI Joint Venture of Oakland as part of the Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification Project. The contract is to conduct architectural engineering design work, which will be used for future blasting design efforts. No blasting or drilling will be conducted under this contract.
  • A Community Perspective on the Corps’ Acequia Rehabilitation Program

    In recent years, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has used its authority under the Acequia Rehabilitation Program of the Water Resources Development Act of 1986 to work with the communities, the State of New Mexico and other federal agencies to upgrade many acequias, including downstream of Santa Rosa, N.M., on the Pecos River.
