  • Buford Dam Road and Park Areas to Temporarily Close

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District stated today that the Buford Dam Road in its entirety along Federal property, will be closed all day for the construction of three pedestrian cross-walks on Oct. 15, 2013 weather permitting. These pedestrian cross-walks will include new speed bumps and striping.

(Oct. 3, 2013) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District requests all contractors awarded a contract with a delivery date or service performance date during the government shutdown to contact the receiving location to make arrangements for the delivery. Contractors are expected to execute all contracts as written. Deviations to contract can only be granted by the contracting officer.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2013) – Due to the government shutdown, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is closing all of its campgrounds and day-use parks at noon on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013. The district previously announced it intended to keep these areas open as originally scheduled. However, support to recreation areas can no longer be sustained as the district progresses through its orderly shutdown.

    The 2012 monsoonal rain season brought runoff which carred debris, choking the culvert under Galisteo Dam's access road. Safety concerns prompted the District to save the road. However the necessary fix wasn’t going to be cheap, especially in this era of budget belt-tightening.

    Branson, Mo. – The Army Corps of Engineers, Table Rock Project Office will continue operating the Dewey Short Visitor Center during the government shutdown. The visitor center is open from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. daily.

  • Contract awarded for Burnham Prairie Annex ecosystem restoration project

    The Chicago District awarded a contract for $1.2 million Sept. 30, 2013, to Industria Inc. for ecosystem restoration on 39 acres at Burnham Prairie Annex, one mile south of Chicago. The project includes removing invasive plants, performing prescribed burns, planting native species and monitoring the effectiveness of aquatic-plant-control techniques.

    Parks, campgrounds and visitor centers operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers across Oregon and southwestern Washington are closed until further notice, the agency announced today.
