  • USACE announces public comment on proposed alum treatment system for C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir pursuant to Section 408

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District announces a 30-day public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the approval of construction of an aluminum sulfate (alum) treatment system during the construction of the authorized C-43 West Basin Storage Reservoir (WBSR) in Hendry County, Florida. The Corps is evaluating the request from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to modify the C-43 WBSR Federal Civil Works project pursuant to 33 U.S.C. 408. Comments are due June 5, 2023.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District is pleased to announce the release of the remedial investigation report and the proposed plan for the Superior Steel Site for public comment. The 37-acre industrial property is located at 500 Superior Street, in Scott Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately five miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh.
  • USACE announces public comment on proposed improvements to the Golden Glades Interchange pursuant to Section 408

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District announces a 15-day public comment period for the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for proposed improvements to the Golden Glades Interchange bridges and other infrastructure on the Biscayne (C-8) Canal in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The USACE, in response to a request from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) on behalf of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), is evaluating a modification to the Central and Southern Florida (C&SF) Federal Civil Works project pursuant to 33 U.S.C. 408 to make improvements to the Golden Glades Interchange. Comments are due Wednesday, May 18, 2023.
  • Stopping the Breach: Kansas City District Engineers work to prevent a future levee breach at Sherman Army Airfield, Fort Leavenworth

    Known to many as both “the best hometown in the Army” and “the intellectual center of the Army,” Fort Leavenworth is famous for being the home of the U.S. Army’s Combined Arms Center, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, also known as the CGSC, and many other prestigious tenants. While possibly lesser-known than some of the other notable tenants at Fort Leavenworth, the installation’s own Sherman Army Airfield is no less significant. As a joint-use facility, the airfield is an important feature to civilians and military alike. Unfortunately, after the historic 2019 Missouri River flood, the airfield was devastated. In response, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has been working to make repairs and design mitigation measures to prevent future flood damage to the airfield.
  • Gold de Fleury Medal presented to retired Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley

    Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, 55th Chief of Engineers and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general, presented the Army Engineer Association’s Gold de Fleury Medal to retired Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley during the Engineer Regiment Ball at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, April 28. The award was presented to Talley for outstanding contributions to the U.S. Army Engineer Regiment and Army engineering.
  • NR 23-13: Kendall Recreation Area closure extended into August 2023

    JAMESTOWN, Ky. (May 2, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Kendall Campground and Day Use Area, to include its boat ramp and roadway along the riverside campground, will remain closed into August 2023 as repairs continue to rehabilitate flood damage sustained in February 2019.

  • Army Corps shares update on schedule for beach nourishment along Delaware Coast

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared an update on the construction schedule for ongoing dune and beach nourishment work along the Delaware coast. USACE’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., is mobilizing a third hopper dredge to the site, which will significantly impact the schedule with construction beginning earlier than anticipated in several communities.
