  • “Bobber’s” Birthday

    On Saturday September 4th the Friends of Burnsville Lake sponsored “Bobber’s” Birthday at Bulltown Campground. The event was filled with fun and entertainment for the whole family, kids even got to have Cupcakes with Bobber! The evening ended with live music from the band Restless!

  • Hero of the Month

    Lisa Hess, Natural Resource Management Specialist at Burnsville Lake, coordinated the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers involvement in a very successful Third Annual Freedom Festival at Burnsville Lake. She was involved in months of planning and a lot of hard work from the Burnsville Freedom Festival committee, the Town of Burnsville staff, the Burnsville Lake team, the Friends of Burnsville Lake members, the Burnsville Lake Volunteers, and the many dedicated members of the local community and surrounding counties.

  • "I Got Caught" Wearing My Life Jacket!

    Rangers will be on the look out for adults wearing their life jackets when they are in or around water. If an adult is caught wearing their life jacket, we might give them a beach towel, provided by the Corps Foundation, as a reward for wearing their life jacket!

  • Burnsville Lake Reopens to Boating

    HUNTINGTON, WV – Burnsville Lake in Burnsville, W.Va., Is now open to boating.  Repairs have been made to the water line that supplies recreational facilities on the Bulltown end of Burnsville Lake and residences in the area.

  • Burnsville Lake Closed to Boating

    Beginning tomorrow, May 15, Burnsville Lake will be closed to boating until waterline repairs are made. Another posting will be made when the lake reopens. The waterline supplying recreational facilities on the Bulltown end of Burnsville Lake extends from the dam to Bulltown and is routed under water in the lake. The line is weighted to securely hold it in the original river channel.

  • Save a Life - Burnsville Lake Recycle a Life Jacket January 2020 Campaign

    Huntington District, Kanawha Area, Burnsville Lake Ranger Lisa Hess launched the Save A Life – Burnsville Lake Recycle A Life Jacket Campaign January 1st, 2020. The campaign ran for the entire month. The purpose was to kick off the year with the community thinking about and being aware of water safety, by helping to “Fill the BOAT” with new, used, slightly used and very, very well loved life jackets.

  • Cultivating Mussels

    Through a partnership between U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, mussels were cultivated in Burnsville Lake and Sutton Lake within West Virginia. In May, multiple cages were placed with fish infested with larval mussels within the lake.

  • Burnsville Lake Freedom Festival

    On July 5th and 6th, the Burnsville community came together with the common goal to celebrate Independence Day and provide free entertainment to the local community, as well as the campers and boaters at Burnsville Lake.

  • Corps Seeks Assistance in Solving Crime at Burnsville Lake

    BURNSVILLE LAKE, W.Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks assistance in identifying the individuals(s) who damaged government property at Burnsville Lake in Burnsville, W.Va. According to Resource Manager Rick Pingley, a John Deere Bulldozer was vandalized above the Riffle Run Left Fork Day-Use Area when vandals removed filters, belts, the oil cap, a fire extinguisher, and fluids from the dozer. The damage was done sometime before 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2019.

  • Junior Ranger Program

    ​Burnsville Lake assisted Sutton Lake with their Junior Ranger Program last week by teaching the students about the wildlife of West Virginia and how it relates to being a Park Ranger. Additionally, the students got to meet a special guest, a leucistic black rat snake, while learning how to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes found in their area.
