• Galveston District to host Texas coast strategic partnering meeting

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 7, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District will host a charette with coastal storm risk management subject matter experts from across the nation to discuss the Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study state-federal shared visioning and partnering opportunities at the USACE Galveston District headquarters Aug. 10-12, 2015.

  • Clark’s Ferry Campground Now Open

    ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, Mississippi River Project announces the opening of Clark’s Ferry Campground on August 7, 2015. Necessary repairs to the campground well and potable drinking water system have been completed allowing the park to reopen to visitors.

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, will conduct joint aerial mosquito spraying Monday, Aug. 10, at federal properties on Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area.
  • Steele Bayou Flood Control Structure to open this week

    VICKSBURG, Miss… The Steele Bayou Flood Control Structure will be opened Saturday, August 8, 2015. The Steele Bayou structure is located north of Vicksburg and was built in 1969 to provide backwater flood protection from the Yazoo and Mississippi rivers.
  • Blue - Green Algae at Saylorville Lake

    Johnston, Iowa - Sandpiper and Oak Grove Beaches at Saylorville Lake have been closed in response to the presence of a blue-green algae bloom which has the potential to impact the health of humans and their pets. Routine water quality monitoring performed at the lake has identified high levels of microcystin, a compound produced by blue-green algae under certain environmental conditions.
  • USACE Galveston District awards $2.6 million small business contract for repair work at Spilman Island Placement Area

    GALVESTON, Texas (Aug. 6, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a small business contract in the amount of $2,655,000 to RLB Contracting Inc, for replacement of the drop-outlet structures at Spilman Island Placement Area.
  • Construction to close Fall Creek North Shore boat ramp

    The North Shore Park and Boat Ramp at Fall Creek Reservoir will be closed from September 2015 through as late as June 2016 due to construction.
  • Summer ranger proves to be great asset at Center Hill Lake

(Aug. 6, 2015) – Each summer Corps of Engineers park rangers go into overdrive with boat patrols, programs and events, supervision of recreation areas, shoreline management, and overall assistance to lake visitors. The many responsibilities can be overwhelming, but this year the load is lightened at Center Hill Lake thanks to the outstanding work of a summer ranger.
