What isn’t so obvious is just how many of one skill set a person can find in a matter of two days and two floors worth of construction workers. After meeting Anthony Bell on Tuesday this week, the Low Voltage Technician from Memphis, I thought that was a pretty unique job title to be honest. I’d actually never heard of it before.

Walking around the Alternate Care Facility construction site, people are usually focused on what workers are doing, not so much the people themselves. And if you’re like me, you’re also very focused on the ground as you don’t want to trip and fall over something as simple as a little cord. But, it’s important to get to know the people doing the work. They are the ones making this facility a reality after all. They are also the people sacrificing time with their families, working 12 hours a day and seven days a week.

20-035 Revised Master Plan and EA for Lower Monumental and Little Goose open for public comment
SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Walla Walla District, has released drafts of the revised Lower Monumental and Little Goose Project Master Plans, each with an accompanying draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA). The public comment period will run from July 20 to Aug. 21.

Today, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District is releasing the final Chicago Area Waterway System (CAWS) Dredged Material Management Plan (DMMP) and integrated Environmental Impact Statement for a 30-day public review prior to issuing a Record of Decision. The public review period will last through August 17, 2020.

USACE Walter F. George Lake To Begin Water Drawdown August 1st
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announced today that on August 1, 2020, the District will begin its scheduled 3-foot water level drawdown at Walter F. George Lake, in preparation for planned repairs to the dikes at Walter F. George Dam damaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018.

Corps awards beach restoration contract for St. Johns County Coastal Storm Risk Management Project
The Jacksonville District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $15,179,050 contract July 7, 2020, to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, LLC, of Oak Brook, Ill., to restore critically eroded shoreline along the coast of St. Johns County, Florida. The Coastal Storm Risk Management Project will include both dune and beach berm construction along approximately 2.6 miles of the St. Johns County coastline from Vilano Beach to South Ponte Vedra Beach. The initial construction will include placement of approximately 1.3 million cubic yards of sand that will be dredged from shoals located within St. Augustine Inlet. Future periodic nourishment events are planned at multi-year intervals.

Corps spills 100 gallons of oil at Bonneville Dam, removes unit from service
On Monday, July 13, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District (Corps) discovered a Bonneville Dam turbine thrust bearing leaked approximately 100 gallons of oil into the Columbia River. The Corps is dedicated to rapid spill responses and is in the process of repairing the equipment. The generating unit is no longer leaking.
