    Army Corps promotes STEM careers for National Engineers Week

    SAVANNAH, Ga. - Why should American students care about pursuing engineering careers?Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are communicating the answer to students throughout the year-and especially during National Engineers Week, which runs this year from Feb. 16 through Feb. 22.
  • The Baltimore District FEST-A team deployed Feb. 8 from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to support a mission in Amman, Jordan. Supporting the team are Col. Trey Jordan (left), Baltimore District commander, and Lt. Col. Brad Endres, deputy district engineer. Maj. Timika Wilson, commander, will lead the nine-person team during the six month deployment.

    Baltimore District team deploys to support an overseas contingency operation

    A nine-person team of specialists deployed Feb. 8 to support a U.S. Army -- Central Command mission. Known as the 71st Engineer Detachment now under the command of Maj. Timika Wilson, the FEST-A (Forward Engineer Support Team -- Advanced) team flew to Kuwait enroute to Amman, Jordan, to replace a similar team from Europe District.
  • Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal visits the Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on February 4, 2014, to receive various updates from USACE leadership regarding current initiatives and the mission of the Transatlantic Division. The Transatlantic Division is responsible for military construction supporting U.S. forces throughout the U.S. Central Command area of operations and for Corps of Engineers?' international and interagency engineering missions that support U.S. policy initiatives abroad. Additionally, Westphal recognized the vital contributions of Soldiers assigned to the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) and their unique mission to provide commercial-level power to military units and federal relief organizations. The 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power) is charged with the rapid provision of Army generators to support worldwide requirements.

    WASHINGTON -- Under Secretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal visited the Headquarters, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on February 4, 2014, to receive various updates from USACE leadership regarding current initiatives and the mission of the Transatlantic Division.
  • A view of the recently completed Portugues Dam as it looks before a dedication ceremony held Feb. 5. The dam, located near Ponce, Puerto Rico, is designed to reduce the impacts of flooding along the Portugues River.

    USACE completes construction at Portugues Dam

    "Entonces, felicidades en sus logros," (Congratulations on your accomplishments). That was the key message from Jo-Ellen Darcy, Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works), to those who attended a dedication ceremony Feb. 5 celebrating completion of Portugues Dam, a $386 million structure designed to reduce flooding impacts in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
