  • Clean-up of former Camp Croft begins with signing of $36.5 million contract

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Work to clean up former Camp Croft near Spartanburg, South Carolina, will begin soon following the April 1 signing of a contract between the Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and a joint venture of Weston Solutions, Inc., of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, and Zapata Inc., of Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Army Corps report recommends removal of Savannah River training wall

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, recommends removing the training wall in the Savannah River which runs roughly down the center of the river for more than a mile through Augusta, Georgia, and North Augusta, South Carolina. The underwater wall was built in the early 20th century to aid commercial navigation.
  • Thurmond closes 3 more boat ramps due to corona virus

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Officials at J. Strom Thurmond Lake have closed an additional three boat ramps in cooperation with local law enforcement to help achieve the national individual distancing standards set by the government. Officials previously closed the visitors center and all restrooms, campgrounds and day-use areas (and boat ramps inside those areas) at the reservoir.
