    The Army honors excellence in STEM education

    LEESBURG, Va.-- Students excelling in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics were recently recognized at the 11th Annual eCYBERMISSION National Judging and Education Event in Leesburg, Va. The U.S. Army's eCYBERMISSION program is a web-based STEM competition free for students in grades six through nine in which teams compete for state, regional and national awards while working to solve problems in their communities.

    Thomas Mun, who is an electrical engineer at the Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, logs on to the eCybermission website. Mun was a volunteer virtual judge for the 2012/2013 eCybermission program competition. The U.S. Army-sponsored program is designed to share the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education with America's youth--tomorrow's leaders. Mun evaluated 65 student projects, helping students understand real-life application of STEM fields.

    FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii- More than a dozen USACE professionals from the Pacific Ocean Division responded to a call for volunteers to be virtual judges February to March for the 2012/2013 eCYBERMISSION competition.

    SEOUL, Republic of Korea - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Defense Schools Korea District signed an education partnership agreement at Seoul American High School. The partnership will center on support for the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics initiative, better known as STEM.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6
