Final concrete shell placement sets project back on critical path
GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Feb. 2, 2020) – The final concrete shell placement at Kentucky Lock for the downstream cofferdam, which also forms the new lock wall, took place today, a milestone that put the construction project back on track.

Park Rangers promote water safety at Nashville Boat Show
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2020) – Avid boaters and outdoors enthusiasts stopped in at the Nashville Boat Show at the Music City Center in hopes of checking off their list of preseason to-dos, and preparing for the start of the fishing season with a little help from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake celebrates 30th managed deer hunt
Nearly 150 people filled a maintenance facility with excitement at Smithville Lake around 4 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019. They were all there for one reason, to get out into the wild and seek a big buck this weekend. For the 30th year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake hosted what’s known as the world’s largest managed deer hunt for mobility-impaired hunters. During this two-day event, 60 hunting blinds are set up across 3,800 acres of prime ground, not available for public hunting. Along with a volunteer, these hunters seek out the best spot near daybreak and wait out their target.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

NR 20-006: Dale Hollow Dam Road closing for repairs to Walker Ridge Road
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 26, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces Dale Hollow Dam Road at the dam in Celina, Tenn., is closing today through April 9, 2020, to repair Walker Ridge Road. The road is in need of stabilization due to a roadside slide related to excessive spring rains and soaked terrain.

Army Corps to limit Regulatory Program operations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, DC in response to COVID-19
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, is incorporating preventative measures, including limiting some day-to-day operations of its Regulatory Program offices, such as postponing office meetings and public engagements to minimize potential exposure to Corps personnel, permit applicants and the general public. Field site visits will continue on a case-by-case basis following appropriate safety precautions and “social-distancing” measures.

USACE Buffalo District substantially completes Stanford Run ecosystem restoration project
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District (USACE) substantially completed the Stanford Run ecosystem restoration project located within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CVNP) in Summit County, Ohio, in early January 2020. The Buffalo District restored nearly 1,200 feet of a small stream within CVNP named Stanford Run under the original Stanford Run Restoration Project contract awarded to Ryba Marine Construction Co. The District also awarded a second, follow-on contract to Armitage Architecture, P.C. at the end of September 2019 to continue restoration on the channel, which restored an additional 1,000 lineal feet.
