Berm construction completes last repair phase for dam rehabilitation
SILVER POINT, Tenn. (July 1, 2020) – Officials celebrated completion of the last phase of repairs for the $353 million Center Hill Dam Safety Rehabilitation Project today where the Corps of Engineers recently finished constructing a roller compacted concrete berm to reinforce the auxiliary dam at Center Hill Lake, a secondary earthen embankment that fills a low area in the landscape just east of the main dam.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps seeks comments on Stockton Lake water supply storage reallocation study
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is seeking comments on a tentatively selected plan for the Stockton Lake water supply storage reallocation study. The tentatively selected plan proposes to reallocate 45,750 acre-feet from the Stockton Lake multipurpose pool and 49,000 AF from the flood control pool, with a 1.8-foot increase to the normal pool elevation. The plan would also include a new water intake structure within the existing City Utilities of Springfield easement at Stockton Lake.

Corps approves temporary modifications to lake water management plans
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Due to ongoing challenging conditions with wet soils and higher than normal river levels across the Missouri River Basin, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is canceling plans to increase water levels in reservoirs for the spring as stated in the annual water level management plans. This temporary modification will better position the Kansas City District's reservoirs to receive spring runoff, and manage for locally heavy rainfall following record lake levels across the district last year. Nine of 18 district reservoirs reached record pools in 2019. Flood control operations at Kansas City District Reservoirs and Bureau of Reclamation lakes prevented $131 million in damages in Kansas and $2.27 billion in damages in Missouri during the 2019 flood event. Life safety and flood control are primary factors in reservoir operations throughout the Missouri River Basin.

Army Corps, Baltimore District receives additional $18 million for projects in Chesapeake Bay region
The approximately $18.2 million includes funding for Chesapeake Bay oyster restoration, study of Baltimore Harbor improvements and restoring degraded aquatic habitat in Prince George’s County.
