  • Diving in the St. Lawrence River to better understand Lake Erie and Ontario

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District Dive Team, accompanied by USACE Detroit District Hydraulic Engineers, traveled north to the St. Lawrence River and installed an Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meter (ADVM) 4-miles upstream of Morristown, New York.
  • Big Cliff Reservoir levels to decrease for sediment sampling

    Water levels at Big Cliff Reservoir will be lower Oct. 13-27 to allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct sediment sampling. The Corps is collecting the sediment samples as part of a Remedial Investigation to determine the nature and extent of any contaminants in the immediate area. Corps employees discovered construction debris during an emergency reservoir drawdown in 2009 and have conducted several smaller sampling events since that time.
  • Corps urges safety amid high Rogue River water levels

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is urging river users to take appropriate precautions as an elevated water release at William L. Jess Dam this week will result in higher water levels along the Rogue River.
  • Lake Red Rock Update for Wednesday, July 2, 2014

    Several recreation areas at Lake Red Rock have been closed due to high water levels: The South Overlook boat ramp, the section of the Volksweg Trail adjacent to the marina, and the Whitebreast Beach have been closed. Boat ramps that are currently open include those at the Whitebreast Recreation Area, Marina Cove, Elk Rock State Park (just off of Hwy 14), and Cordova Park for lake access, and Howell Station Landing for river access below the dam. Please note that parking areas at the Marina Cove ramp are very limited during times of high water. All other recreation areas at Lake Red Rock are open at this time.   • Operations Division overcomes challenges

    “2013 was a year full of challenges,” said Jim Jeffords, Operations Division chief. “Our biggest challenge was the historical rain event that occurred from April to July. The event tested all aspects of the district – our water managers, inspections of the dike, emergency operations, dam safety and corporate communications.”
