  • Saylorville Lake Picnic Shelters Open to First-Come, First Served

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District will open picnic shelters at Saylorville Lake on a first-come, first-served basis beginning June 19. Reservations will not be accepted and users are asked to select shelters based on their current occupancy and availability.
  • Sustainable Rivers Program established at Des Moines River Reservoirs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District and The Nature Conservancy have partnered to establish a Sustainable Rivers Program at Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock on the Des Moines River. The emphasis of the program is to benefit aquatic dependent species while continuing to provide the same level of flood risk management to river communities.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District announces campgrounds at Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock will reopen June 1. Online reservations through www.recreation.gov are required for all sites and same day reservations are now permitted.
  • Corps of Engineers Suspends Collection of Day Use Fees, Campground Closures Continue until June 1

    ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District has suspended the collection of day use fees until Oct. 1. These suspended fees apply to all open recreation areas within the District. This includes recreation areas at Saylorville Lake, Lake Red Rock, Coralville Lake and those located along the Mississippi River between Potosi, Wisconsin and Saverton, Missouri.

  • Corps to Host Several Public Open House Events for Des Moines River Water Control Plan Update

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District is hosting four public open house events to seek input on updating the Des Moines River Regulation Manual which includes the Water Control Manual for Saylorville Lake and Red Rock Lake. Proposed updates to the Manual will be discussed during the meetings and District staff will be on hand to answer questions and discuss comments, questions and/or concerns regarding the Water Control Plan update.
  • Master Plan updates underway

    (September 2012) An effort is underway to update the Corps Master Plans for Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock, two of the Districts flood risk management reservoirs. The current plans were completed in 1984 and 1976 respectively, serving as guides for recreational and environmental stewardship decisions. Many things have since changed including land use changes within the watershed and on project lands, adjacent community growth and development, as well as an increasing demand for recreational opportunities.
