  • Final Gathright Dam pulse release of 2015 scheduled for Wednesday

    Operators at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia will conduct the final pulse release of the year Wednesday. The pulse, conducted by the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will begin at approximately 6 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. and will increase levels 3 to 4.5 feet in the Jackson River.

  • Gathright Dam pulse release underway

    At 6 a.m. today, operators at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia began conducting a pulse release. The pulse will gradually increase and peak at 3,500 cubic feet per second by 9 a.m. The maximum surge will last two hours, begin to gradually decrease at 11 a.m., and return to 240 cfs by 1:30 p.m.

Conley Bottom Resort in Monticello, Ky., became the first marina on Lake Cumberland to earn the distinguished certification.

    NASHVILLE, TENN., (Sept. 9, 2015) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District supports marina operators and owners who are voluntarily striving to protect the water resources of the Cumberland River Basin by going “clean and green” such as Conley Bottom Resort in Monticello, Ky. On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, the Corps, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Cumberland River Compact, and Conley Bottom Resort will celebrate the marina receiving their new flag to designate them as a “Clean Marina.”

  • Corps urges boaters to use caution on Okeechobee Waterway

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is urging boaters on Lake Okeechobee to use caution as a result of falling water levels impacting navigation routes. The Corps issued a Notice to Navigation yesterday (June 15), advising commercial and recreational vessels to use extreme caution while traveling Okeechobee Waterway Route 2 between Port Mayaca and Clewiston. Officials are also asking boaters to use caution in the waterway between Clewiston and Moore Haven as temporary dams associated with rehabilitation work on the Herbert Hoover Dike have created a narrow channel at multiple locations.

    Mark Twain Lake is experiencing higher than normal water levels due to the recent rainfall in the watershed. The lake is expected to crest at less than 619 NGVD by Friday with no additional precipitation. The normal pool elevation is 606 NGVD.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District is reminding boaters to wear life jackets while enjoying time with friends and family over the upcoming holiday weekend. “On average, nine out of 10 people who drowned at a USACE lake or river project didn’t wear a life jacket,” said Adam Tarplee, Jacksonville District Natural Resource Program Manager. “Life jackets save lives by keeping you afloat and providing time for rescue.”
