Nashville District completes Wolf Creek Dam barrier wall

JAMESTOWN, Ky. (March 6, 2013) – Construction workers placed concrete for the last pile today, which completes the underground barrier wall and paves the way for raising the Lake Cumberland pool level. It is the last of 1,197 piles that are approximately four feet in diameter and extend 275 feet from near the top of the dam into bedrock below the foundation of the 4,000-foot long embankment of Wolf Creek Dam.

Construction begins with 'first bite' on foundation barrier wall at Center Hill Dam

The "first bite" of a $106 million drilling project to stabilize the earthen portion of the Center Hill Dam with a barrier wall was taken July 11, 2012 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and its contractor, Bauer Foundation Corporation, as the auger of a giant drill rig turned up the first dirt to the cheers of spectators.

NR 12-019: State highway over Center Hill Dam restricted to one lane starting July 9

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 22, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces today Highway 96/141 over Center Hill Dam is being restricted to one lane starting July 9, 2012. The restriction is necessary to enlarge work space on the dam to support the next construction phase of the Center Hill Dam Foundation Remediation Project, installation of the foundation barrier wall. During the two-year duration of the lane restriction, an automated traffic control system will safely manage vehicles across the dam. The maximum wait time is five minutes.

Construction commotion moves Corps to Wolf Creek Dam safety milestone

JAMESTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 24, 2012) – Wolf Creek Dam is abuzz with machinery, often bottlenecked with equipment and vehicles, and work crews move about like ants on the work platform in performance of their duties on the foundation remediation project. Despite what seems like construction commotion, there hasn’t been a lost-time accident in more than a year.
