Mississippi River Commission gains fresh perspective of Tennessee, Cumberland Rivers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 14, 2015) – The Mississippi River Commission recently navigated the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers to gain a fresh perspective for the development of plans to improve the condition of the Mississippi River Basin, foster navigation, promote commerce, and reduce flood risk.

Forum empowers Corps of Engineers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2015) – Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Valley Authority, floodplain administrators, community leaders, and technical professionals from throughout Tennessee attended the 6th Annual Tennessee Association of Floodplain Managers Conference in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Summer ranger proves to be great asset at Center Hill Lake

LANCASTER, Tenn. (Aug. 6, 2015) – Each summer Corps of Engineers park rangers go into overdrive with boat patrols, programs and events, supervision of recreation areas, shoreline management, and overall assistance to lake visitors. The many responsibilities can be overwhelming, but this year the load is lightened at Center Hill Lake thanks to the outstanding work of a summer ranger.

15-028: Public workshops scheduled for Old Hickory Lake Master Plan update

The first is Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Old Hickory Lake Resource Manager's Office in Hendersonville, Tenn. The second is Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mt. Juliet High School in Mt. Juliet, Tenn.

NR 15-027: Open house set on board Motor Vessel Mississippi in Chattanooga

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 31, 2015) – The public is invited to an open house on board the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI when it is docked at Ross’s Landing in Chattanooga from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7. The vessel is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ largest diesel towboat and flagship to the Mississippi River Commission, which is inspecting Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District projects along the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers as part of the commission’s annual low water inspection trip.

Maintainers work to fully repair drained Old Hickory Lock

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (July 27, 2015) – Old Hickory Lock holds 19 million gallons of water when fully operational; however, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently closed it to navigation and drained it for scheduled repairs.

NR 15-026: Corps holding back water in Cumberland River Basin

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 8, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is holding back water and limiting releases at its dams to relieve high-water levels on the lower Ohio and Mississippi Rivers where record seasonal flooding is underway.

NR 15-024: Sunset Marina flying new ‘Clean Marina’ flag

NASHVILLE, TENN., (July 2, 2015) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District supports marina operators and owners who are voluntarily striving to protect the water resources of the Cumberland River Basin by going “clean and green” such as Sunset Marina in Monroe, Tenn. The Corps, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Cumberland River Compact, and Sunset Marina celebrated June 22, 2015 as the marina received their recertification and a new flag to designate them as a “Clean Marina.”
