PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is temporarily closing Blackhawk Park, located near De Soto, Wis., starting today, May 5, due to flooding on the entrance road into the park.   • Corps closing Minneapolis locks to ALL traffic due to high flows on the Mississippi River

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will close its three twin cities locks to commercial navigation at 4 p.m. today, when flows surpass 40,000 cubic feet per second, or cfs. The three locks were closed to recreation boaters Sunday, April 27, when flows exceeded 30,000 cfs.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is initiating a study to improve habitat of McGregor Lake, which is part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish near Prairie du Chien, Wis. The public is invited to attend an informational open house concerning this study.
  • Corps submits report to Congress with alternatives to prevent Asian carp and other species’ transfer between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River basins

    The Corps submitted to Congress the Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study (GLMRIS) Report Jan. 6, 2014. The report contains eight alternatives, each with concept-level design and cost information, and evaluates the potential of these alternatives to prevent, to the maximum extent possible, the spread of 13 aquatic nuisance species, to include Asian carp. The options concentrate on the Chicago Area Waterway System and include a wide spectrum of alternatives ranging from continuing current activities to complete separation of the watersheds.

    SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va.-- One of the most important missions the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers carries out is reducing the risk of flooding. The Summersville Dam here, the second largest earthen dam east of the Mississippi River, is designed to do just that by holding back water during heavy rain events.
  • USACE, partners build Mississippi River islands to protect aquatic habitat

    A series of recently restored islands nestled along the Mississippi River near Lansing, Iowa, were merely a design a few years ago. The construction is a part of the Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program, also known as the Environmental Management Program. The program, according to Tom Novak, project management, is a multi-agency, multi-district program that is restoring aquatic habit along the river.
