    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods and emergency dredging, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 7, near La Crescent, Minnesota, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 3,577 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,323 lockages during the 2013 season.

A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 8, near Genoa, Wisconsin, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,395 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 2,372 lockages during the 2013 season.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 9, near Lynxville, Wisconsin, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,948 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 2,855 lockages during the 2013 season.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2014 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Dec. 10. The 2014 navigation season was one of the shortest seasons on record. A historically late start, coupled by summer floods, finished with the earliest closure at Lock and Dam 10, in Guttenberg, Iowa, since 1970. Despite the challenges, there were 2,847 lockages during the 2014 navigation season. There were 3,055 lockages during the 2013 season.
  • Corps seeks comments on proposed repair plans for Lock and Dam 1 in Minneapolis

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking comments on a Clean Water Act evaluation to make repairs at Lock and Dam 1 in Minneapolis. The Corps is developing plans to repair scouring immediately downstream of the dam. The plan includes placing more than 14,000 cubic yards of rock along the entire width of the dam and up to 150 feet downstream. In all, an estimated three acres south of the dam will be impacted by the project.
  • Regular dialogue with the navigation industry continues to keep commerce moving on the Mississippi River system

    Near constant communication between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the navigation industry and the U.S. Coast Guard is allowing commercial barge traffic to safely pass a restricted section of the lower Mississippi River (miles 632–635) near Fair Landing, Ark., and 30 miles south of Helena, Ark., with most delays less than 10 hours.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, proposes to reduce the hours of service at Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam in downtown Minneapolis and Lock and Dam 1, adjacent to Minnehaha Park, starting the 2015 navigation season.
  • Mississippi River Commission low-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual low-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River August 15-22, 2014. Four public meetings have been scheduled aboard the Motor Vessel MISSISSIPPI in selected towns along the river so commission members have the opportunity to meet with local partners, stakeholders and residents and hear their concerns, ideas and issues.
  • Corps of Engineers to host free youth fishing derby at Blackhawk Park

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting a free youth fishing derby for kids age 12 and under at its Blackhawk Park near De Soto, Wis., Aug. 2.
