  • ERDC researchers commission full-size, semi-autonomous research vessel

    Making its way through the murky waters and swift current of the Mississippi River at the Vicksburg riverfront, the Research Vessel Martin looks like any other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) survey boat. However, there is one major difference. The inland survey vessel has been converted into a semi-autonomous craft, making it the first of its kind for the organization.

  • Army Corps to host Virtual Public Meeting on Wicomico River Maintenance Dredging, Placement Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Baltimore District, is hosting a virtual public meeting April 14 from 6 – 8 p.m. to provide information and solicit input on the upcoming Wicomico River maintenance dredging and placement site location at the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The meeting can be accessed via WebEx or phone.

  • ERDC’s Field Research Facility holds groundbreaking ceremony for new annex

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new annex building at its Field Research Facility in Duck, North Carolina, April 6, 2021. ​The $4.3-million annex will consist of laboratory and research administrative spaces to support the organization’s expanded military research mission. In collaboration with the Army’s Maneuver Center of Excellence, the Field Research Facility develops methods to protect forces, conduct forcible and early entry and transition rapidly to offensive operations.

  • Final levee system project on horizon as MVM completes preliminary projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District, in partnership with the Fulton County Board of Levee Commissioners (FCBLC), is nearing completion of two maintenance projects, the Island 8 Parcel 1 Relief Well Ditch Restoration Project and the Lake No. 9 Collector Ditch Erosion Repair Project, both located along the Mississippi River Mainline Levee south of Hickman, Kentucky. Completing these projects is essential, but what's even more important is what comes after. Once finished, the district will be that much closer to executing the last and final project needed to complete the entire levee system.

  • ERDC team uses unique tool in Navy aircraft runway testing

    Since aircraft have been used as wartime weapons, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has led the charge of creating tools that allow those planes to land anywhere in the world. Today, that mission has not changed, and the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) is using a unique machine to better understand the Navy’s P-8 Poseidon and how it distresses temporary, rapidly constructed runways.  

  • Corps of Engineers to reduce traffic at Lac qui Parle Dam for repairs

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is reducing traffic at the Lac qui Parle Dam, near Watson, Minnesota, starting April 5.

  • Corps to mobilize mid-April for Fort Pierce beach renourishment

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, will mobilize in mid-April to conduct a beach replenishment project at Fort Pierce, Florida. The shore protection project will entail sand replenishment of approximately 1.3 miles of beach immediately south of the Fort Pierce Inlet. It is the continuation of a federal project initially constructed in 1971 with an additional 14 periodic and emergency re-nourishments carried out since 1999.

  • Another project under the belt for the Far East District

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) completed its latest project, SPT060 Site 2 Building E, a support building, with an Acceptance Release Letter (ARL) ceremony at USAG Humphreys, Pyeongtaek, Republic of Korea, Apr. 2.

  • Two-part LOSOM Project Delivery Team Technical Workshop scheduled for April 12 and 16

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, announces a two-part Technical Workshop for the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM) Project Delivery Team (PDT), to be held Monday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Friday, April 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The presentations and discussions will be different on each day of the workshop.

  • Smith nominated for 2020 Program Manager of the Year Award

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Memphis District recently nominated Program Manager Derrick Smith as the Program Manager of the Year. Every year the district selects an Army civilian program manager to recognize their outstanding contributions and support of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the regiment, including civil works, leadership, and achievements.
