Old Hickory Lake shoreline project addresses erosion nearby slave cemetery
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (July 23, 2021) – Maintenance personnel onboard the Motor Vessel Iroquois removed vegetation and stabilized a section of shoreline on Old Hickory Lake this week to address erosion issues nearby the historic Rock Castle Slave Cemetery, an important cultural resource in the community.

David Montes Jr.: Soldier, Project Manager, and now, Chaplain candidate
David Montes Jr. has answered a panoply of calls from Soldiers throughout his 22-year Army career. Two years ago, Montes decided to answer another, much higher call: to become a Chaplain. His decision to answer this particular call has placed him on a new path as a Chaplain candidate in the U.S. Army Reserves.

U.S. Coastal Research Program’s During Nearshore Event Experiment begins fall 2021
Leading coastal scientists and engineers from across the U.S. will descend upon the Outer Banks of North Carolina this fall as part of the U.S. Coastal Research Program’s During Nearshore Event Experiment, or DUNEX, to study the physical processes behind storm impacts to beaches, dunes and coastal communities.

Draft Mississippi River Master Plan released for public review
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, has released for public review, the Mississippi River Project Master Plan with Integrated Environmental Assessment for Pools 11-22 of the Upper Mississippi River. The public is invited to submit comments regarding the alternative analysis and preferred alternative for this project through Aug. 20.

Red Lake Dam flows reduced due to drought conditions
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is reducing flows from Red Lake Dam, at the outlet of Lower Red Lake, in Clearwater County, Minnesota, because of drought conditions across the state.

Corps urges caution in the Mississippi River Headwaters during drought
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, urges boaters to go slow and use caution in lower-than-normal lakes right now. Warm weather and a lack of precipitation has resulted in low water levels. The Corps is closely monitoring lake levels and will adjust outflows as necessary.

Corps monitors low water on the Upper Mississippi River, navigation continues
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, continues to closely monitor water levels on the Upper Mississippi River as drought conditions continue across Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa. The low water is not affecting shipping conditions on the river and navigation continues.
