    GALVESTON, Texas (Nov. 19, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, awarded a contract in the amount of $1,382,700 to New Orleans-based Bailey-CKY, a small disadvantaged veteran-owned small business, to perform construction of dewatering ditches at the San Jacinto Placement Area relating to the Galveston harbor and channel in Galveston County, Texas.

(Nov. 15, 2012) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is scheduled to reopen Cheatham Lock 6 p.m., today following a one-month closure for major maintenance repairs to hydraulic and mechanical equipment damaged during the 2010 flood along with other routine maintenance.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District has published a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for a Department for the Army permit from the Coastal Water Authority’s Luce Bayou Interbasin Transfer project, for which an Environmental Impact Statement will be prepared. The Corps will hold a public scoping meeting Nov. 28, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center at 801 S. Cleveland St., Dayton, Liberty County, Texas.

  • USACE Galveston District begins beach renourishment at South Padre Island, Texas

    SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (Nov. 5, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District partnered with the Texas General Land Office, Cameron County and the City of South Padre Island to renourish approximately one half mile of South Padre Island’s beaches using beach-quality sand harvested from a local dredging project.

  • Taking water safety to the troops

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Southwestern Division water safety team held its division-wide water safety event as part of the Wings over McConnell 2012 Open House and Air Show Sept. 29 & 30 at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. More than two dozen team members from the division and its four districts (Tulsa, Little Rock, Galveston and Ft. Worth), as well as the the Kansas City District and the National Water Safety Team staffed a 150 foot by 100 foot area during the two day event visited by more than 100 thousand military members and their dependents who attended the Open House and Air Show.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 1, 2012) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville Districts celebrated the graduation of 16 students for its 2012 Employee Achieving Greatness and Leadership Excellence (EAGLE) class today at the Jack C. Massey Business Center at Belmont University.
