    The Virginia Beach Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project, a joint effort by the city of Virginia Beach and Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is slated to begin Thursday. Beginning at 15th Street, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company is working toward the placement of sand after mobilization efforts Wednesday.

    Although not even officially summer, the city of Virginia Beach and Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are already preparing for winter. The district has awarded the Sandbridge Hurricane Protection and Beach Renourishment project contract to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company.

    The district has awarded the Virginia Beach Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project renourishment contract to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois. The bid of $22.64 million includes the placement of 1.4 million cubic yards of sand from 15th Street to 70th Street.

  • Corps plans closure for emergency repair to North Landing Bridge

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will close the North Landing Bridge on Route 165 for emergency repairs beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

  • North Landing Bridge to Close to Vehicle Traffic for 4 Days

    The North Landing Bridge will close to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. Oct. 11 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 to fully repair the damage sustained during two barge strikes earlier this year.
