  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins NEPA process for Anclote River Channel in Pasco County, Florida

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is beginning preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document to address a channel realignment, configuration, maintenance and material placement for the Anclote River Channel in Pasco County, Florida. The non-Federal sponsor for the proposed project is the City of Tarpon Springs. Jacksonville District is currently gathering information to define issues and concerns that will be addressed in an analysis to be prepared in compliance with NEPA.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – Across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, day use fees have been waived at its more than 2,600 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide, including Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes, in observance of two special days – the Corps of Engineers’ 250th birthday on June 16, and Juneteenth National Independence Day on June 19.
  • Corps of Engineers Inner St. Joseph Harbor dredging starting June 9

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District dredging operations are scheduled to begin Monday, June 9, to maintain the federal channel at the inner St. Joseph Harbor. Dean Marine & Excavating, of Mount Clemens, Michigan, will perform the mechanical dredging to maintain safe passage for vessels at the upstream docks as the Corps of Engineers contractor. The work is scheduled to conclude by July 30.
  • Jennings Randolph Lake Plants Native Chestnuts in National Conservation Program

    Jennings Randolph Lake staff and volunteers planted 40 American chestnut seedlings along Sunset Trail at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, owned and operated recreation site, June 7, 2025. This effort comes as part of a national conservation program that chose the Corps park as one of only 19 spotlight sites across the country.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Dam Safety Section performed the first of two periodic tributary dam inspections scheduled for 2025 beginning with the Branched Oak Dam located northwest of Lincoln, Nebraska June 2.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Russellville host groundbreaking for the Russellville Flood Risk Management Project – Prairie Creek Reach

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District and the City of Russellville hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Prairie Creek Reach of the Russellville Flood Management Project, June 5, 2025. The Russellville Flood Risk Management Project began in 2010 at the request of the City of Russellville under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Continuing Authorities Program Section 205 authority. The goal of the project is to reduce frequent flooding in the downtown Russellville area.

    Michael Wielputz, a materials regional technical specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, was named the 2025 USACE Materials Engineer of the Year in recognition of his exceptional contributions to engineering excellence and the Corps' national and global projects.
