  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issues scoping letter for assessment for the Indian River Lagoon South Project

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 26, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (USACE) is preparing a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment for the Indian River Lagoon South Project (IRL-S) Recreation Features. IRL-S is a part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). The project was authorized in Section 1001(14) of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007, Public Law 110-114 and Section 8401(6)2 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2022, Public Law 117-3263. The purpose of the IRL-S is to provide benefits to the St. Lucie River and Tributary system and this action will provide recreation features at project components.

  • US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District extends Non-Breach Emergency at Columbia Lock and Dam in central Louisiana

    Vicksburg, Miss. – The US Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District has extended the non-breach emergency at the Columbia Lock and Dam located on the Ouachita River approximately seven miles upstream of Columbia, LA. This declaration allowed the Corps to adjust water levels upstream and downstream of the lock and dam to investigate concerns while safely operating the structure for the navigation industry.
  • Corps seeks public comment on Draft Tiered Environmental Assessment, R-562 PL 84-99 Levee Rehabilitation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ draft tiered environmental assessment (EA) for the R-562 Public Law (PL) 84-99 levee rehabilitation is currently available for public review. The EA evaluates the environmental impacts of correcting damages to the R-562 levee system, caused by the flood on the Missouri River in 2019. These damages have compromised the level of flood protection that the levee system provides and poses a risk to property and life safety. Repairs to the levee system are needed to address this risk to property and life safety by restoring a level of flood protection to the leveed area. The proposed project is located between Missouri River miles 541.5-549.0 in Otoe and Nemaha Counties, Nebraska.

Few will actually achieve it, but for those who have a knack for science and technology, designing a race car might be a more achievable goal – a chance to live life in the fast lane. For students involved in Powercat Motorsports at Kansas State University, this dream is a reality. Powercat Motorsports is the university’s Society of Engineers Formula Race team. Open to any student enrolled at Kansas State University, the team designs and builds a brand-new formula one race car every year. They compete with their car at various events throughout the year, but the biggest competition occurs at Michigan International Speedway.
