• Russell County School Children Visit Greenup

    Nearly 300 children from Russell County Schools participated in a day long outdoor activity day at Greenup sponsored by the Greenup County Soil and Conservation District. Ranger Mark Benson represented the Huntington District by teaching the children about the functions of the locks and dams and their importance to the region.
  • ISIS, potential dam collapse make deployment memorable

    Richard Benoit, Portland District dive team proponent and program manager, has been deployed for more than a year, first to Afghanistan and now to Iraq. This is his seventh overseas deployment, but his first to the Middle East, where he is serving as the Corps’ dive safety officer and dive safety inspector for the Mosul Dam rehabilitation and repair project.
  • USACE responds to Lake Ontario flooding

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, technical field teams have visited 13 Lake Ontario coast sites in response to emergency flood efforts. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo formally requested Corps of Engineers assistance on May 9 and initiated additional interagency coordination to supplement the state’s emergency response to record water levels.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close Fort Norfolk to visitors tomorrow through May 21.
  • Army Corps announces National Safe Boating Week May 20-26, 2017

    BLUE MARSH LAKE — The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Blue Marsh Lake would like to remind all of the importance of wearing a life jacket while boating. Accidents on the water can happen much too fast to reach and put on a stowed life jacket. Drowning is the reported cause of death in three-fourths of all boating fatalities while 85 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing a life jacket.

    FORT IRWN, Calif-U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Deputy Commanding General for Military and International Operations Maj. Gen. Mark Yenter toured several Los Angeles District projects at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, during a visit here May 15.
  • UPDATE - Debris could enter Lake Pend Oreille, boaters should use caution

    Army Corps of Engineers’ officials have declared a log-boom breach at the Clark Fork Drift Facility an emergency and are warning boaters to watch out for logs and other floating debris on Lake Pend Oreille. Logs and debris from the Clark Fork River may pass through the breach. Floating and submerged logs and debris can be a safety hazard for all recreational boating activities.
