The Memphis District's Caruthersville Area Office team successfully held a virtual preconstruction conference to discuss contracts awarded for future levee slide repairs in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. 

Levee slides typically occur as a result of heavy rains or water rapidly receding after a flood and can lead to levee failure if unaddressed.

“The contracts furnish all plant, labor, equipment, and any incidental-related work according to the plans and specifications for repairing 18 slides under Work Area Three and 14 slides under Work Area Four for a total of 32 slides,” Lead Civil Engineer Jack Ratliff said.

Work Area Three is located in Arkansas and Tennessee whereas Work Area Four is located in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, and Tennessee. 

“The approximate range of the slide lengths for Work Area Three range from 50 to 525 feet,” Area Engineer and Administrative Contracting Officer Daimon McNew said. “Work Area Four slide lengths range from 50 to 200 feet.”

Both areas were awarded to C&M Contractors, Inc. on April 27 and April 24 respectively. The Task Order start date for both work areas was June 24. Construction is slated to start July 6.

The contract award for Work Area Three was $695,840.00 with a required completion date of September 25, 2022. The contract award for Work Area Four was $484,751.35 with a required completion date of July 31, 2022.
