Corps of Engineers, partners, report on progress restoring America’s Everglades
Significant progress has been made in restoring America’s Everglades over the past five years and a comprehensive report highlighting these efforts has recently been submitted to Congress. The 2015 Report to Congress for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) was jointly submitted to Congress last week by the secretaries of the Army and the Interior. The report details the collaborative effort of participating agencies and their combined commitment to restore America’s Everglades.

The Workforce Awakens -- Millennials find their “Pathway” to success
There is a tremor in the workforce. With a swell of retirement-eligible baby boomers leading the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a new band of heroes face a stiff challenge to quickly transform into future leaders of our nation’s premier public engineering agency. A collection of young professionals born from 1981-1996, millennials hold a cosmic cloud of information at their fingertips and are finding a new “Pathway” to success, designed to make them the most well-trained decision makers the Corps has ever seen.

New York District joins U.S. EPA at announcement of Superfund project for Lower Passaic River, NJ
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 recently announced a $1.38 billion Superfund project for the cleanup of the Lower Passaic River. The event featured keynote speakers Sen. Bob Menendez, Sen. Cory Booker, Judith Enck, regional administrator, EPA, Col. David Caldwell, commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New York District, Bob Martin, commissioner, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and other participants. Each talked about the importance of the cleanup of the lower Passaic River.

Forum highlights women-owned small businesses
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2016) – More than 350 business owners and managers visited Music City today to get more in tune with federal, state and local procurement systems during the 5th Annual Small Business Training Forum at the Tennessee State University Avon Williams Campus.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers launches new water safety campaign -- “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns”
WASHINGTON — Every year thousands of people in the United States mourn the loss of loved ones who could have survived if they had been wearing a life jacket while spending time on or near our nation’s waters. To heighten awareness for the use of life jackets, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recently launched a new water safety campaign titled “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns.” USACE, in cooperation with the Corps of Engineers Natural Resources and Education Foundation, a non-profit foundation established to support USACE natural resources and recreation programs, developed the campaign that targets adult males.
