    Chris Caywood: To the Corps and Beyond

    After four and a half years with the Far East District, Design Branch Chief Chris Caywood is leaving the organization for a new position with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

    ERDC supports NASA’s mission to Mars

    In the 1960s during the Cold War, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Cold Region Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) designed a device, commonly referred to as a Rodriguez well, or Rodwell, to harvest water under the ice in Greenland and Antarctica to sustain U.S. facilities by providing water for drinking, hygiene and other needs. Presently, NASA is working with CRREL to assess whether that same technology can provide water for human-inhabited research stations on Mars.

    The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville’s 2020 Leadership Development Program I group expanded their knowledge base during a team-building trip to the Prototype Integration Facility and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center area of operations Jan. 31, 2020.
  • Corps awards Florida business $23 million contract, helps protect Virginia space-flight facilities

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $23.7 million contract to Miami-based business Continental Heavy Civil Corp. for beach renourishment at the NASA Wallops Island Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

    Corps, NASA breakground on new data center

    Dignitaries from NASA, the Norfolk District, U.S Army Corps of Engineers and private industry gathered on a grassy field, nestled within the confines of NASA’s Langley Research Center, to breakground on a new building that will help take the human race to mars.
