    Rast named USACE Silver Jackets Coordinator for 2019

    The Silver Jackets Coordinator of the Year Award recognizes outstanding individual USACE efforts and contributions to a Silver Jackets team. The award recipient for 2019 is Mr. Brian Rast, of the Kansas City District. Mr. Rast serves as the USACE Silver Jackets Coordinator for the Kansas and Missouri Silver Jackets teams and has made significant contributions to meeting the states’ priorities for flood risk management in these roles. Mr. Rast has utilized the State Silver Jackets teams’ webpages to effectively communicate the teams’ partnership and interagency efforts and to keep past work readily accessible for reference. He has focused on building relationships between federal agencies to support the state teams, including co-facilitating a USACE-FEMA Partnering Meeting and establishing a Federal Partners Mitigation Workgroup. Mr. Rast readily shares his knowledge and expertise by conducting training sessions with partners on floodplain management plans and nonstructural flood risk management approaches.

    Upper Mississippi River - Illinois Flood Risk Assessments

    This inter-agency pilot project developed map products to provide risk communication to communities in Illinois Mississippi Riverfront communities. Structural flood damage assessments for all structures were developed using multi-frequency flood depth grids. Survey data was collected for the lowest entry point and first floor elevation for all residential, commercial and industrial structures within the 1% annual chance exceedance floodplain. Parcel data, GIS data, and elevation certificate data that have been prepared for structures in the floodplain was obtained from county assessors.

    As part of Virginia Flood Awareness Week, the Virginia Silver Jackets, a team composed of multiple federal and state agencies, will sign an updated charter this week.

    District, Goshute Tribe and interagency partners work toward flood resiliency in Skull Valley

    If you want to build resistance to floods, you first need a team with a plan. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and interagency partners are building a floodplain management plan with the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe in Utah.

    D.C. Silver Jackets recognized as climate change leader by Cities100

    The District of Columbia Silver Jackets flood-fighting team has been selected to be highlighted in the global publication Cities100 that names 100 concrete city programs to address climate change that can be scaled and replicated across the world.

    Tennessee kicks off 'Silver Jackets' with local, state, federal partners

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Local, state and federal partners kicked off Silver Jackets today at the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Headquarters. Tennessee officially becomes the 40th state to join the program that provides a formal, consistent and unified approach to planning and implementing measures to reduce the risks associated with flooding and other natural hazards.
