    Army Safeguards Iconic Times Square Recruiting Station

    Each year for the past 30 years, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District personnel ensure the Times Square Recruiting Station an iconic symbol of U.S. Armed Forces recruitment in the heart of New York City and one of the oldest in the U.S. is protected from people gathering there for holiday celebrations. (While COVID-19 precluded crowds for the annual ‘ball drop’ from the Times Tower skyscraper marking the new year, hundreds of thousands of people pass through the area daily.

    Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, Chief of Engineers, visited New York District October 5-6 and observed the District’s civil works projects and facilities.
  • The Corps was lauded by the Waterfront Alliance for its work in rendering assistance during a crisis, and for its navigation mission, ecosystem restoration wetlands restoration, and coastal restoration achievements.

    U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers stage a mobile dissolved air flotation system at Chautauqua Lake, New York, ahead of the Harmful Algal Bloom Interception, Treatment, and Transformation System 2020 research demonstration. The ERDC and scientists from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are collaborating with industry partners to study harmful algal bloom mitigation technology in Chautauqua Lake from Aug. 19 through Sept. 4.

    Researchers from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) and scientists from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) are collaborating with industry partners to study harmful algal bloom (HAB) mitigation technology in Chautauqua Lake, New York, from Aug. 19 through Sept. 4.
