W.G. Huxtable gear box repair complete
Among the five ribbon cuttings held Jan. 26, Memphis District leadership stopped at the W.G. Huxtable Pumping Plant in Lee County, Marianna, Arkansas, to celebrate another project completed with the help of District Partner St. Francis Levee District, pumping plant employees, and the Project Delivery Team.

Complete: Scour repairs downstream of St. Francis bridge
The Memphis District has done it again. The Memphis District Commander, Col. Zachary Miller, district leadership, Project Partner Rob Rash, and Project Delivery Team members all gathered to celebrate, with a ribbon-cutting, the completion of yet another significant project involving riverbank armoring. Along with our longtime partner, the St. Francis Levee District of Arkansas, represented by Rob Rash, the Memphis District awarded a contract to A Rock Construction Co., Inc., in the amount of $2,786,197, to remove debris, reshape the channel, and armor the bank with more than 27,000 tons of stone along the CR736 Bridge over the St. Francis River in St. Francis County, Arkansas.

Approximately 20 people gathered near what appeared to be an insignificant wall to celebrate the completion of a project that has an enormous impact on six communities.

Eroding bank at Lick Run has been restored
To signify the Streambank Protection Project's completion, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with Pleasant Hills Authority, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 21.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

Corps of Engineers and Fish and Wildlife Service break ground on Twin Cities environmental restoration project
ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Midwest Region will celebrate the start of an environmental restoration project for the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge with a ‘virtual’ groundbreaking ceremony Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Detroit welcomes new commander
Lt. Col. Scott Katalenich assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, today, Friday, July 24, in a Change of Command ceremony rich with symbolism and heritage. Katalenich comes to Detroit after receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in Civil & Environmental Engineering – Atmosphere/Energy from Stanford University under the Army’s Advanced Civil Schooling Program. Change of Command for Mississippi Valley Division
Maj. Gen. R. Mark Toy will transfer command of the Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), to Maj. Gen. Diana M. Holland in a formal change of command ceremony June 30 at 10 a.m. at MVD headquarters. Due to the current conditions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will not be open to the public, but will be live streamed on Facebook @mississippivalleydivision.
