  • Remembering our Memphis District brothers and sister

    Members of the Memphis District gathered for a memorial yesterday morning at the Clifford-Davis Odell Horton Federal Building to honor and remember seven teammates, who to many of us were family, that we unfortunately lost over the last year. An additional ceremony was held later in the day at the Ensley Engineer Yard to dedicate a newly planted tree to those seven fallen teammates. The tree was planted to replace the first commemorative tree, dedicated to all deceased U.S. Army Corps of Engineers members who had served proudly. That tree had 'lived it's given life' and was unfortunately uprooted during a strong storm in years past.
  • Community commemorates, dedicates Dale Hollow Dam on 75th Anniversary

    CELINA, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2018) – As a heavy fog lifted over Dale Hollow Dam and Reservoir during the 75th Anniversary Commemoration this morning, members of the community and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials brought into clear focus how communities, homes and farmlands were given up in the early 1940s to make way for the reservoir, and more than a thousand men worked day and night to construct the dam. A few even lost their lives supporting an expedited construction program.

(Oct. 1, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the public to attend a commemoration to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Dale Hollow Dam and Reservoir 10 a.m. (Central Standard Time) Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at the dam’s overlook in Celina, Tenn. The dam and reservoir will serve as the backdrop for this historical occasion.

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 20, 2016) – Barkley Dam, a symbol of progress in western Kentucky, turned 50 today with fanfare, remembrances and special tributes during a commemoration ceremony at the Badgett Playhouse Theater and reception at the community center.

(Aug. 19, 2016) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Barkley Dam is being moved indoors tomorrow due to the high chance of rain in the forecast. The event will now be held 11 a.m. at the Badget Playhouse Theater located at 1838 J. H. O’Brien Avenue in Grand Rivers, Ky.
  • NR 16-021: Public invited to Barkley Dam 50th Anniversary commemoration

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 9, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is inviting the public to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Barkley Dam during a ceremony 11 a.m. Aug. 20, 2016 at the Spillway Shelter below the dam. The project is named after the late Alben W. Barkley, attorney, county judge, United States senator, and 35th vice president of the United States.

    Two thousand sixteen marks the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District’s service to this region. The district will commemorate this milestone throughout the year.
  • Nashville District salutes Vietnam War vets who served with honor

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 25, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District held its semiannual retiree luncheon today, but it wasn’t an ordinary get together. The group decided instead to salute employees, retirees and their family members who served with honor during the Vietnam War.
