FEMA and USACE Prepare to Jointly Assist Tribal Nations During Disasters

On September 25, USACE tribal liaison members visited FEMA's National Response Coordination Center in Washington, D.C. Georgeie Reynolds, senior tribal liaison, USACE HQ, Paul Cloutier, NWD Tribal Liaison, Rebecca Klein, Army National Guard assigned to the USACE Tribal program, and Ron Kneebone, Albuquerque district tribal liaison, met with FEMA personnel in order to lay out a path forward for better collaboration efforts between the two agencies in order to better assist tribal nations during emergencies.

Corps mobile command center heads for Colorado flooding

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District deployed a mobile command center –the deployable tactical operations system, or DTOS – to Aurora, Colo., Sept. 14 to assist in the federal government’s response to severe flooding throughout the state.

USACE responds to FEMA mission in aftermath of Oklahoma tornadoes

OKLAHOMA CITY - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees were among the first on the scene following the May 2013 tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. Members of the USACE Emergency Support Function III deployed to the scene hours after destructive tornadoes ripped through several areas in the state, with the most extensive damage in the cities of Shawnee, Moore and El Reno.

Housing Planning and Response Team members complete Level 2 certification training

Six members of Huntsville Center’s Housing Planning and Response Team recently completed Level 2 Certification training, making them eligible to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to a disaster. The training included classroom training as well as field exercises at multiple locations that the State of Virginia is considering for development of temporary community sites to have prepared prior to a major event occurring.

Engineering a difference

Captain Antonio Pazos was in the Hurricane Sandy emergency operations center, simultaneously gathering progress reports for 14 projects which included the tunnels, preparing reports for the New York’s emergency operations center and controlling the flow of water. It was right where a self-identified adrenaline junkie was meant to be.
