  • Contract awarded for test section work for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for test section work on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This work will support the construction of approximately 17.5 miles of levee system that will provide 100-year level storm surge risk reduction to the area extending from Bonnet Carrė spillway to Garyville.

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract Sept. 20, 2021for the maintenance dredging of the Tampa Harbor Upper Channels to Orion Marine Construction, Inc., of Tampa, Florida, in the amount of $3.45 million.

  • Construction contract awarded for new Louisville VA Hospital

    The Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, will build a new 104 bed, full-service hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. An $840 million contract was awarded to Walsh-Turner Joint Venture II headquartered in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 17, 2021 to construct the new hospital, which will replace the existing Robley Rex VA Medical Center.

  • Corps of Engineers to begin St. Joseph emergency dredging in June

    DETROIT – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin St. Joseph Harbor emergency dredging early June, expediting the process to restore critical navigation. The Corps of Engineers identified a shoal restricting the channel depth during this year’s annual channel survey. In some areas the restriction was as little as 13 feet below low water datum, effectively closing the inner harbor to commercial navigation. “This is a true team effort,” said Detroit District Project Manager Alicia Smith. “We worked with Congressman Fred Upton’s office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the City of St. Joseph and local sponsors to award this contract in an expedited manner to restore critical navigation.”

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently awarded a $2.4 million contract to Water Works Dock & Boat Lifts, Inc. of Stoddard, Wisconsin, to repair a Mississippi River habitat restoration project approximately 40 miles south of La Crosse, Wisconsin, that was damaged by recent flooding events.
